So last nights MET gala was one of my favourites yet! I actually ran out of work and went down there to see if I could catch a glimpse of the action. Even though I didn’t see much (security was very tight), the atmosphere was amazing and the whole entrance of the MET was illuminated from the flashes of paparazzi.
Everyone always critiques the MET gala fashion but it is the one night of the year where you are supposed to take a risk and stay on theme. This years theme was ‘Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination’ showcasing how Catholicism has influenced fashion throughout history.
This exhibition, again curated by Andrew Bolton has been years in the making and it will be the largest Costume Institue show to date and the biggest show ever at the MET. It will span 26 galleries as include works from Valentino, Gaultier & Dolce and Gabbanna alone with more then 40 accessories on loan from the Vatican.
My favourite outfits are always those who stick to the theme and come decked in crosses, rosary beads and other religious sysmbols.
Who knows maybe next year I’ll be able to attend! It’s on my very long bucket list.
